Expectations of Student Integrity
The University of Phoenix has clearly defined, culturally acceptable, and reasonable expectations with regard to values and ethics that University of Phoenix students should learn and follow to while attending the university. Values are “core beliefs that guide and motivate attitudes and actions” (Ethics Resouce Center, 2009). Following the University of Phoenix’s Code is essential for success in the academic setting and is a good general rule for business and life.
The University of Phoenix has a diverse student and faculty population whose primary mission is the “pursuit of intellectual growth” (University of Phoenix, 2009, Student Code Of Academic Integrity). As a person’s principles are developed throughout their life, the University of Phoenix would be remiss if the university assumed all personnel connected to the university (student or faculty) had, and adhered to the precise same principles and values. To avoid misunderstanding and confusion among the university population, the University of Phoenix has clearly stated what will not be accepted, what is considered an infringement of university policies, what the university believes to be appropriate behavior as well as what the university’s expectations are, with regard to each student’s values. The University of Phoenix’s beliefs, expectations, and respect for the ideas of others, have been established over time and are clearly defined in the University of Phoenix Program Handbook. Cultures have different values concerning honesty, for example, in some cultures, getting ahead is more valued than maintaining integrity.
