Within my local area of San Diego there is The Family Health Center of San Diego which is a community health center founded in 1970. Their mission is to provide caring, affordable, high quality healthcare and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low income and medically underserved persons. Everyone is welcome at their health centers, including Medi-Cal, insured and uninsured patients. Many patients qualify for programs that cover the cost of their care. If patient are uninsured and do not qualify for a program, their cost is discounted based on income and family size. Since the opening of Family Health Center of San Diego the number of patients who have qualified for services has increased steadily.
The City of San Diego and community council members were responsible for helping bring the need of this clinic to major groups in and outside the community. Family Health Centers of San Diego relies on the community’s support to continue their mission of providing caring, affordable, quality healthcare to everyone in need. During the planning and implementing stage guidance and assistance for the undertaking of the clinic was provided by the Volunteers from local businesses that participate in community developments. The Family Health Center of San Diego offers support to the community by sponsoring health awareness campaigns, health fairs, and through media. This center provides health care services to many local residents who cannot afford to have health care insurance. The center also provides adult services, children’s services, dental services, and mental services. The center is dedicated to providing healthcare services to medically underserved persons.
