In last week’s article, liberal radio talk show host Bill Press tries to paint progressive hosts like himself as victims of a conservative-dominated radio industry. But what Mr. Press fails to mention is that while conservative voices command the airwaves, the television and newspaper media are blatantly biased in favor of the left. Outlets like NBC, CBS, ABC, the New York Times, TIME Magazine, and even the Washington Post are the most prominent examples of left-leaning bias in the media. For instance, during the chaotic fallout after the toppling of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003, the media emphasized U.S. deaths and setbacks in the war on terror while ignoring the good that has been done, including the deposition of a murderous dictator and the establishment of a democracy. The war dominated the news while death rates of U.S. soldiers peaked. Remarkably, the war is hardly ever featured in the media now that U.S. soldier death rates are at an all-time low and Iraq has held their second successful election. The mainstream media also routinely ignores the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. The event attracts at least 200,000 protestors per year, yet one must go looking for coverage. In fact, the New York Times did not print a single word about the march in their newspaper the day after this year’s march (January 22nd). Just last week, independent commentator Bill O’Reilly went after a feminist who criticized his poking fun at journalist Helen Thomas. He berated her for not saying a word in defense of Republican Governor Sarah Palin when she was “getting the hell kicked out of her” by the mainstream media during the 2008 campaign. A 2008 study conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism examined 2,412 campaign stories from 48 news outlets through a critical stretch of the campaign, September 8, 2008 to October 16, 2008. It found that 57% of stories about Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain were...
