Family

Family

Compared to most people, family has a different meaning for me. Family is not just living together and being biologically related to one another. I believe it’s far greater than that. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, family is “a group of common ancestry.” People have different understandings of how they look in to their families. In my opinion, without family and their support, one has little to achieve in life.
My family plays a big role in my life. Specially my mother and father since I’m the oldest of my siblings. Without their support, I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like. I have lived with them my whole life through comfort or rough times. You can’t imagine how hard it is to be without them till it finally happens one day.
Some of my friends have not been with their family for the past 10 years or even more (adjective clauses). One of them is my close friend from Columbus, Ohio whom I have known for a little over 5 years and went to the same high school with him (adjective clauses). He came here with his auntie which has no sympathy for him. I thought he had more freedom in life than I did since I had a curfew time and he didn’t. I always used to tell him “you’re lucky bro, you can do whatever you feel like.” He used to smile at me and reply with “if only you knew.” I used to laugh it off and would not give much attention to his reply. In my senior year I noticed changes about him. He would call his mom almost every other day with a calling card. There was sadness on his face that I sensed. I kept on questioning him to know what was going on until he told me his uncle died and was fatally killed by an opposing clan. I could tell he was greatly hurt because his uncle was the only source of care for his mother and his little siblings.
Similarly, there was American-born Islam who hasn’t talked or seen his mom since he moved out from her at the age of 18 (adjective clauses). He came to learn the benefits of being good to one’s parents. He...
