Family Relationships and Technology
Many things changes through the years and one of the largest changes has to be technology in the home. Smartphones, computers, video games, television and social networks are in just about every home in America, does this affect family relationships or does it help them? I do believe there are pros and cons to technology in the homes but I do think the bad outweighs the good.
If we could go back days about 30 years ago and look at ones childhood we would notice we didn’t have half of the distractions in our home as we do today. Of course we had the television and this could be on in the morning after getting ready for school and either the news or cartoons could be showing. By afternoon when getting home from school the TV was not allowed on it was homework, chores and then outside to play with friends and even then parents said to be back inside by the time the street light turns on. During dinner and any meal of that matter families didn’t ever allow to have the TV as this was a time of talking about our day and plans for the next. Sometimes maybe families would get to watch a half hour show before bed but there was never a TV in the bedroom. Most children were lucky to have a radio in their bedroom. Also most homes didn’t have a computer until the mid-1990’s and even then it was still not in every home and really only used to type school papers. Video games were not very
