Over the last three decades, fast food has infiltrated every nook and cranny of American society. An industry that began with a handful of modest hamburger and hot dog stands in southern California has stretched to every corner of the nation, selling their quickly and cheaply made range of foods wherever a paying customer could be found. The whole experience of buying fast food has become a routine and social custom to America. Millions people buy fast food everyday without giving it any thought. They should really know what lurks between those sesame seed buns. You are what you eat. Not only is fast food putting a dent in health, but on wallets too. Many of us average about $5 per day on soda, candy, or fast food (or maybe a combination of all three!). Multiply that 5 by the number of days in a week, 7. You then may spend around a total of $35 per week. Not a big deal, right? Well, multiply that $35 by the 52 weeks that are in a year, and you’ll end up spending a whopping $1,820! They say that the average American that is 25 yrs. or older that currently works grosses $32,000 annually. Instead of wasting money and gas, take time out the night before and scan the refrigerator for leftovers. Prepare your meals the night before work or school and simply reheat them the next day. Maybe prepare a couple of meals on the weekend. There are ways around this problem, and we have to find those ways before the problem itself ends up killing us and our budgets! Running through a drive-through at lunch or dinner has become a habit and a routine for many families. It’s easy, quick, and has available alternatives to home cooking. Most people today have less time to prepare and eat food than their elders did. Fast foods are very appealing because they are widely available and somewhat inexpensive, but still very high in calories.
