Fault in Our Stars Book Review

Fighting Cancer AND lugging around an oxygen tank? Meet Hazel Grace, who fights off Cancer and has weak lungs.
The Fault in Our Stars is a novel about two teenagers, Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters who fall in love and venture out to Amsterdam to find the author of their favorite book, Peter Van Houten. While in Amsterdam Augustus finds out some shocking news and both Augustus and Hazel's worlds fall apart around them. During the whole book Hazel realizes life was not meant to be wasted, and you should make the most of it, because you never know when it'll be gone. Augustus along with Hazel experience life in a different way.
I give this book 4.5 stars. The words in the book were a work of art, the words stick in your head like a piece of gum under a desk. Whenever Augustus talks to Hazel it sounds like he practiced saying it a million times before, it sounded like poetry. As he says about smoking an unlit cigarette "It's a metaphor you see, you put the killing thing between your teeth but you don't give it the power to do the killing." Not just that one, but many more. I would've given it 5 stars, but people built up too much hype about this book, and towards the middle it got dull, nothing exciting happens in the middle. The biggest fear I had when diving into this book was the sadness, but somehow John Green manages to take a cancer book and fill it with the sweetest memories. The plot was "ok" for me, never wowing me or keeping me on the edge of my seat. There weren't many plot twists or shocking moments. Don't get me wrong, this is a beautifully written book, but a problem I ran into was the unrealistic characteristics of Augustus and Hazel. It's like John Green sat down and created mini-John-Green-Despicable-Me-like-minions for these characters. They're both too witty and intelligent for their own good. Other than that, it was a great read. If you enjoy reading young adult books, full of humor and heartbreaking moments, this book is perfect for you....
