“Shakespeare in Love” is a fictional movie written about the great writer and poet, William Shakespeare. It is a perfect example of a timeless love story, including the classic components of drama, humor, and unsubstantial love. Although fictional, the real story line is the writing of "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare. The story line is wonderful and yet a bit confusing. This classic play will have you laughing even if you don't understand most of the Shakespearean dialogue and surely will keep you on the edge of your seat wandering how even more twisted the plot could possibly be, “In this movie he creates a fiction around the composition of Romeo-complete with disguises, misunderstandings, and abrupt reversals-that is itself Shakespearean.” (David Denby 294). The film, Shakespeare in Love, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, is leading audiences, formerly bored with this classic play, back to an appreciation of this romantic tragedy.
I very much like how the movie took the approach of telling the story of Shakespeare's life, because is interesting to know what his life, unique imagination and contributions to the theatre have done. But on the other hand "Shakespeare in Love" could be tough for the mainstream public in many ways. Some of the reasons the audiences will get bored most times of this classic play is because of the timeless tale of a love versus hate relationship - a sentimental romance about love that wasn't meant to be. Shakespeare is suffering from writer's block, and is seeking inspiration by having a muse. A muse is a power, in this case a female, used to inspire a poet. Of course, a love story proceeds.

While the movie is fictional, I believe it is absolutely an educational tool in helping depict the theatre and drama of these times.
