Finance Major The daily duties of my career are being a controller, cash manager, treasure and finance officer, and credit manager. All these are very important key features to have in order to be able to manage the flow of money. As a controller I direct the preparation of financial reports, such as income statements and future earnings or expenses. You always have to be able to monitor any price changes in expenses because that will affect your gross income tremendously. As a cash manager you must be able to monitor and control the flow of cash receipts to meet the business and investment needs of the firms. Sometimes loans must be obtained to meet cash requirements. A treasure and finance officer manages associated risks, supervises cash management activities, execute capital-raising strategies to support a firm’s expansion, and deal with mergers and acquisitions. Finally, credit managers establish credit-rating criteria and monitor the collections of past-due accounts. Finance majors have a high salary because of their degree and there importance to the company. Directors of finance earn an average of $79,000 to $184,000 in 2007. Corporate controllers earn $61,000 to $149,000. It is very important that you obtain a degree in your life. It changes people’s perception of you and your salary increases an average of twenty to forty percent depending on your employment. Large corporations often pay more than small ones, and salary levels can vary depending on location. Many financial managers receive additional compensations in forms of bonuses or an increase in salary pay. People with expertise in accounting and finance, particularly with a master’s degree, have a high chance of being promoted in a business. Many banks are looking for finance majors that are licensed to sell insurance or securities. To succeed in this career you must be dedicated to your job.
