Follow the Leader

I recently discovered that life is just one big game of follow the leader. I believe this because we make decisions and do things based on what other people think. This all hit me one day when I was talking to some of my friends at school. We were discussing some important issues, when one of my friends joined the conversation and changed the topic to the presidential candidates. The majority of my friends appeared to be leaning towards one of the candidate but only one person in the group appeared to be informed about the political views of that candidate. As she continued talking about the candidate, I noticed other people agreeing with her. It dawned on me that they didn’t really know anything about either candidate. All they could do was chime in and say “yeah” or “that’s right” to what ever she said that sounded good. They never added their own thoughts or reasons to the conversation. They were just following the leader. Then I thought, why do people just follow other people and what makes those people worth following?
I will admit I watch MTV (music television), and one night while watching MTV, I noticed a large number of celebrities and teens promoting one of the political candidates. All they could say was “He is for change.” and “He is going to change things.” Not once did any of them explain what he was planning on changing and how he would change things. Most of these interviews and commercials are based on what celebrities think they know or who they know. There were a lot of posed pictures of celebrities, smiling at high profile events or celebrity fund raisers with the candidate. I found it interesting that many of these celebrities have only a high school diploma or have dropped out of high school. Very few have a college degree or were pursuing their education further.
