My essay will be discussing about the Four-Fields Discipline of Anthropology. The essay is broken down into five parts. First I will define Anthropology. The second part will mainly focus on the Physical Anthropologists or ‘biological anthropologist’, as many now prefers to be known. The third part of the essay will mainly focus on the Archaeological Anthropologist. The fourth part will mainly focus on the Cultural and Social Anthropologist. Lastly, the fifth topic will be the Linguistic Anthropology,
What is Anthropology? Anthropology is a study of people, or science of engagement. Indeed it may be said that in anthropology we study ourselves, precisely because it requires us to change our conception of who we are. Anthropology may be distinguished from the many branches of the human sciences, all of which could claim to be studying people in one way or another.
One of the four fields of discipline is Physical or Biological anthropology. Physical anthropology studied the evolution of human anatomy and devoted specifically to the evolution of our own kind. Biological anthropology is the branch of anthropology that studies, in the context of other primates, the development of the human species. Biological anthropology incorporates bio-cultural studies of human diversity, the ancestry of the human species; and the comparative anatomy, behavior, history, and ecology, of historic and present-day primates. It mostly studies hominid fossil evidence and their evolution and studies.
The other field of discipline is the Archaeological anthropology. Archaeology studied the evolution of material artefacts. Anthropologists study people and primates researching their cultural, physical, and social development over time. Archaeologists investigate history by finding and studying the remains and objects a society leaves behind.
