Frankenstein

If Frankenstein’s creature is placed in modern times where he goes to school and has a family that raises him, he is still going to be treated very similar to the way he is being treated in Frankenstein but just slightly better. The modern world still refuses to accept those who are different, no matter how beautiful they are from the inside, which is Frankenstein’s case. I am not saying that no one accepts those who are different, what I am saying is that most of the people do not accept those who are different or accept them but still not completely (regard as outsiders). The creature is sensitive and carrying but no one gives him a chance to be himself therefore he turns into the monster he is in the story. He gets called “an ugly wretch” and a “monster”. Imagine a gigantic creature that looks horrifying walking around in Times Square how would the people react? They will run away from him or shout out of fear. Our situation is very similar to when the creature walks into a village and gets rocks thrown at him in the story; both situations are a way of not accepting someone who is different. Another event that occurs in the story and can also occur in modern times is when the creature see’s the girl drowning and helps her. The award of his “benevolence” was being shot. If a girl was seen drowning in modern times at for example a lake and the creature goes to help her will he be regarded as a hero? Not necessarily in fact he most probably will get negative attention. Yes, he will probably not be shot but he will still not be regarded as a hero. Remember when the creature talks to the elder De Lacey while the others are away but is then struck “violently with a stick” when the others arrive later. Picture a similar situation in modern times, a man walks into his home to find a gigantic monster talking to his blink father, the man would then most likely react by calling the police. As a conclusion, even if we place Frankenstein’s creature in modern times the...
