High school and college are two completely different places of learning. The transition from the High School way of doing things is hard. The instructors expect more than they do in the public school system. The classes are packed into sixteen fast paced weeks instead of the eighteen in the public school system. One thing that I have realized is that the key to success in college is studying. These are just some of the different things about the new college life.
When I went around asking people what they thought the toughest part of college was they said it was studying. Most people can not find time to study, or they just can’t or are unwilling to make time. Most students that I spoke to have jobs, or have extracurricular activities that they have to do as well as attend class. The only thing that I can say to that is maybe college is not the place for people that can not make time for it. It is a very costly thing and if one is going to attend college they have to strive to give their college classes one-hundred percent of their attention.
Some other people that I interviewed gave me some key things to do and not to do while in class. The number one thing that I was told not to do was to not fall asleep. No matter how long the instructors lecture may be try to give it your full attention. Teachers know when someone is not giving them any attention and they will not be so nice when they grade your papers. Another big thing not to do is to not call your instructor Mr. or Mrs. Most of the instructors have gotten doctorate degrees and because of that they are doctors of their field. It is a sign of respect by giving them respect for what they have done. The one key thing that people told me to do in class is to take notes. The more notes the better. The instructors are usually lecturing about what is going to be on the exams or finals and it would benefit to take the notes down so you can study what they said. It also can help to...
