Reflection of improving therapeutic technique in local hospital
How to be a good health care professional? If you ask me this, I probably say the physical health of a patient is the first concern for all good medical workers. After reading the passage below, I have changed my original idea. Actually, both mental and physical are basic elements for one’s holistic recovery.
According to the news report of Weiweipo on 25th February,2013 , a female patient who suffered from severe depression in Kwai Chung Hospital, suicided by hanging in the hospital at the end of December last year. Her family members complained the negligent behavior of nurses and doctors was the main cause of this tragedy. Patient’s daughter, Miss Tan, said that the ward consultant doctors had never contacted her mother.
Due to insufficient amount of nurse and doctor, caring time of each patient is far less than standard expectation. This makes most frontline staff do not have much more time to observe something they missed about clients in diagnosis. From the case above, we can find a problem that is common in hospital nowadays. Surely it is communication between health care professionals and clients. That is why therapeutic technique, using leads, is emphasized again and again in health care system. During limited time of conversation in diagnosis, using broad opening statements or questions can direct the clients to express his or her thoughts and feelings. The purpose of this technique is to encourage the patient to continue and speak more about themselves. This can help the nurses and doctors understand what he feels his situation and realize what he needs other than medical care.
