ABSTRACT
This research is about showing that criminals should not sit on death row for a large number of years. The goal is to prove that there are many logical reasons why convicted felons should not sit on death row. It starts with the history of the death penalty, which then leads in to why most criminals being put on death row now are undeniable guilty. There are many pros of exactly why this would be a great idea to develop this process into the US criminal justice system. These pros are anything from extra money for our government to spend elsewhere, to having more available room inside prisons. This is not something that could be added overnight, it would have to have several regulations to make sure no one who is already on death row gets pushed forward. There should be a law put in place where convicted felons would not sit on death row more than a year before you were executed. Not leaving inmates on death row would be best implemented with a clause that the law goes into effect on the day it was passed, and any existing criminals on death row would remain on death row until these inmates would normally be executed. This would protect those who were possibly wrongfully accused, and at the same time stop the US prison overcrowding problems.

There are many stories in the news about how long convicted felons sit on death row before they are put to death. The average criminal on death row differs from state to state, with an average around sixteen years. Sixteen years of someone sitting on death row just waiting for the government to finish off their sentence. With the technology available today, no one should sit on death row more than a year.
