The United States has been welcoming immigrants for centuries. Some of the most successful families in American history were immigrants. “The idea that we are an ‘immigrant nation’ is part of our culture identity” (Simon n.p.) Most every person in the United States has grandparents are immigrants. In the past, immigrants entered this country legally and quickly assimilated into American society. Today Illegal immigrants are flooding through our borders by the thousands on a daily basis.
These Illegal immigrants are creating problems for legal immigrants as well as naturalized citizens. The cheap plentiful labor that they provide takes jobs from more deserving legal workers. They use up valuable services which should be available to citizens. They often are involved in criminal activities, which create more problems for U.S. tax payers. In order to protect the American way of life, illegal immigration must be stopped.
Illegal immigration has become a dilemma for the immigrants who have entered this country legally. It is giving the legal immigrants a poor image. Legal Immigrants must be willing to wait for more then fifteen or more years to come to this country in order to find a better life for their family members. Residents agree that the lack of border control is one of the ways illegal immigrants reach this country. Illegal immigrants take up hospital areas which are needed for more critical patients. More money has to be spent on the prevention of illegal immigration which should be spending on residents of the United States. Tax payers are upset about the fact that their hard earned money is going to help support and provide services for those who do not pay taxes. Employers look the other way and let illegal immigrants work for them and deny jobs for Americans.
