Traditions Drawn Deep How do youcelebrate your holidays? Every culture has their way of celebrating these special days; this is how we celebrate ours. Both of my parents are Mexican, and we do certain things to celebrate the holidays. Our celebrations like others are year round. We start with Thanksgiving, which is one of the first and biggest celebrationsthat we have. We continue on with the rest of the holidays, Christmas, New Years and so on. In Mexico, Christmas is an important holiday season with strong tradition. We also celebrate the New Year in a special way but, our celebration doesn’t end there. January sixth is also a very special day we celebrate and we have a nice family get together.On this particular day we celebrate the Reyes Magos. When we begin planning our holidays we start at least one month in advance. This takes a lot of time to plan and make the correct choices. Usually all the women in the family get together, “at Moms house”. We discuss all the different ideas we might have for the celebrations. We share all of our thoughts and discuss what, where, when and who. We all come up with certain plans and we stick to them as much as possible. We get the lists together for food, decorations, piñata, and all the things we will need for the festivity. We initiate the preparation the next day after our little get together. The food is the best part of it all. We are all assigned to cook a certain dish. The dishes vary from sweet and regular tamales, posole ,menudo , bunuelos and biscochitos. These are very difficult dishes to prepare and this takes lots of time love and dedication. Each celebration rotates within our homes. One year it’s held at my house the next at my sisters and continues accordingly. My favorite holiday is Christmas because, I love the winter season, and just being together with all the family in a nice warm comfy place is so welcoming. One of the most and colorful traditions is the posada party, celebrated every evening...
