Gender Inequality – a world problem

Gender inequality and sexist issues have long been a global problem. Women have historically been categorized as the weaker sex. This is an issue in almost every situation such as the work place, government, and education. Women are too familiar with disadvantages in their careers. Efforts in promoting gender equality and efforts in reducing the gap of inequality has proven to be successful, including raises in women’s wages and less discrimination in various work situations. But as more and more attention has been given to promoting women rights, there have been multiple accounts in which people have failed to see the nature of women and the actual abilities they have. All of this coming from a male(myself) makes it easy for me to disregard all women and their accomplishments in favor of other men and what they have done. But for this assignment and for the future, I will put it into perspective and listen and speak from both sides of the story. Too much attention has been given to avoiding female discrimination that some far more important factors are being ignored. Historically, women’s primary job discrimination is managing the household. Most women in the past were housewives and with no source of income, they depended on their significant other for the gathering of money. At first, women were strongly discriminated against but slowly as gender reform develops, women were offered more opportunities. This was all in spite of the fact that the wages were often less than that of a male employer doing the same type of work. Famous cases such as Bradwell vs. Illinois, in which a United States Supreme Court case that solidified the Privileges Clause of the Fourth Amendment and determined that the right to practice a profession was not among the privileges stated in the Clause, contributed to gender equality in work areas greatly.
