Gender Observance

RUNNING HEAD: Second Activity Krystal Jablonski Dr. Self Eastern New Mexico University Gender Observance When observing people of different genders and how they interact with one another is a very interesting thing. There are many things to look at when observing this. I observed the distance between each other, how and where people touched each other, how people talked to one another, and when looking at children, how they played with each other. I looked at men and women, men and men, women and women, and children. When looking at all of these, I had an advantage in looking at couples, considering some of my observations came while in a gay and lesbian club. My first stop was at The 212 Club in Amarillo, Texas. This club is a drag club and mostly consists on gay men. Although I did see some women, I focused mainly on the gay men. I arrived there early and watched them playing pool, sitting and talking, and finally dancing toward the end of the night. I focused on 3 different groups. One was a group of 3 friends, one was a couple, and the other was 2 friends. While watching the first group, they were playing pool. At first they just played and talked. After a while they began to high five each other for good shots and then one even kissed the other on the cheek. The proximity of one another started out farther apart but then they began to get closer. They eventually moved to a table and I noticed that they sat very close and leaned into the table and talked. Their eye contact was almost nothing until they moved to the table. While observing the couple, I noticed that they were kissing and hugging each other most of the night. I do not think that I ever saw them more than 3 feet apart all night long. They seemed to be laughing and you could hear the words like, honey, baby, and sweetie most of the night. The last group was just 2 friends hanging out. The sat across from each other but leaned into the table to talk. The music was going but only from the juke...
