GeneOne is a small start up Biotech Company that is well known for their innovated technique to eliminate the need for pesticides for potatoes and tomatoes. GeneOne faces many challenges in going through with an IPO. Without those being solved, they will not be able to move forward.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
GeneOne is a $400 million dollar biotech company that changed the way that farmers farm potatoes and tomatoes. The farmers were able to grow these crops without having to use pesticides. This has been very beneficial for GeneOne. They are able to say that their crops are organic, and they do not have to spend money on costly pesticides.
In Today’s economy, there has been a huge interest in the biotech companies on Wall Street. The CEO and board members of GeneOne, have discussed, that if they [GeneOne] want to stay on target of, 40% increase that they may need to look at an IPO. They are looking at going public in the next three years.
The company, GeneOne, thinks that buy bring in more working capital that they will be able to use that for many different things, such as a new Research and Development, advertising, and marketing of their current product, and any future products that their Research and Development team may come up with in the next few years.
The issues the company faces are tough for the CEO. Many different people have different opinions about becoming a public company. Some feel it is not a good idea, some feel that it may be a good option, but not sold on the idea, and then there are some that think it is the best thing for the company to keep growing their profits and developing their technology.
