I am a United States Sailor. I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, and I will obey the orders of those appointed over me. I represent the fighting spirit of the navy and those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world. I proudly serve my countries navy combat team with honor, courage and commitment. I am committed to excellence and the fair treatment to all.
There are many parts to the sailor’s creed. Each of which dictate who I am, and how I act as a United States Sailor. Every morning, reciting the Sailors Creed surrounded by my brothers and sisters brings a sense of pride and dedication to the work I do every day. Since the first time I proudly stated the sailor’s creed, it has influenced who I am, what I do, and how I am as a human being.
“I am a United States Sailor.” To me this reminds me that I am a part of the world’s greatest and most powerful naval force. I have the right to say this anywhere I go. As an American I have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As a sailor, I defend these rights for humanity.
“I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” I am willing to fight for, and die in the line of duty defending America, the constitution, and the people of America.
“And I will obey the orders of those appointed over me.” I will follow any lawful orders by my superiors. No matter what it be, without question.
“I represent the fighting spirit of the navy and those that have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world.” Every time I put on my uniform in the morning. I am representing the navy and everything the navy stands for. Also by wearing the uniform I am connecting myself to every other sailor. By being the best sailor I can and looking good in my uniform I can ensure the sailors who have paid ultimate price won’t be forgotten.
