Shoe Pro Inc. operates a retail shoe store offering shoes, socks and accessories for the entire family. Offering casual, dress, and athletic footwear for the family, ShoePro Inc. meets the needs of everyone. Thinking globally for an entrepreneur means, thinking outside the box, outside the borders of the US, planning for more than the entrepreneur's existing space. For the majority of small business owners, the barrier to the global market is not believing they can enter this market, believing that global sales are only for a large corporation. According to Zimmerer, "Entrepreneurs are discovering that the tools of global business are within their reach and that the benefits of conducting global business can be substantial. In fact, about two-thirds of the world's purchasing power lies outside of the borders of the United States" (p. 562). Due to the internet, technology that is affordable, and the world's growing economies it is easier for companies of all sizes to engage in international trade.
Strategies for Global Growth
The starting strategy that ShoePro Inc. will implement is a website. A website gives ShoePro the ability to sell their products 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A well-made website allows an entrepreneur to encompass customers all over the world and without going significantly over budget. A study by Internet World Stats estimates the number of World Wide Web users to be 1.02 billion worldwide. Approximately 227 million of them live in the United States, leaving 795 million potential Web customers outside this country’s borders” (Zimmerer, T., Scarborough, N., & Wilson, D., 2008, p. 565).
