Genetically modified (GM) foods are those which foreign genes have inserted into their DNA. Most Americans probably eat GM foods at every meal without knowing it. Scientists warn that GM foods might create toxins, allergies, nutritional problems, and new diseases. Therefore government should not approve the GM foods. First of all, for many environmental activists and consumers, GM foods bring more problems than solutions. Microbiologist Isabelle Meister, who works on the Greenpeace international campaign against GM foods, says that GM technology is imprecise and has unknown effects and future possible mutations are unpredictable, and consumers are being used as guinea pigs. The mad cow disease and SARS virus might be spreaded by genetically modifications. Besides health, GM foods also raise concerns over food control. GM technology is patented subject to rules and royalties. This means that the right to use GM seeds is controlled by patent holders, and farmers are not allowed to use seeds from existing GM crops. This might be expensive for poor countries. So poor farmers will produce uncotrollable GM foods illegal and they will harm the foods. GM food producers say that there is no enough food for everyone and there are hungry people. The world produces enough food. There are hungry people because the food is not distributed to them. It is not offered to them. Hunger is a problem of food being concentrated in the hands of the rich and poor people not having access to them. Producing more food cannot solve hunger, it can be solved by better diplomatic procedures. In conclusion, Genetically Modified Food should be banned. Despite all of the physical beauty of GM food promoted by supporters, this products are unrighteous and the truth should be revealed publicly to the rightful consumers.
