God is man/Women are dangerous
Where do these ideas come from? What have been their consequences for men and women and for the way masculinity and femininity have been understood in the western/American culture and religion?
The idea that God is man and that women are dangerous emerges from the socialization and culture we live in and even from the religion we practice. For example, according to Collins who emphasizes hegemonic masculinity, real men are “forceful, analytical, responsible, rich, not gay, white, and NOT like women” Ah yes that’s where we got it from, no wonder the 10 year old imagines God as a man. Culture embedded that ugly lie in us. To be a man means you cannot be like a woman. For example, if you cry, you’re automatically are made out to be “like a girl”. Hegemonic masculinity is to be everything that is not a girl. Ah yes that’s why women are dangerous, because they’re not men. Because according to Genesis, she ate from the tree of knowledge first AND fed Adam too and made him sin. Now you tell me why anyone would imagine God as a woman? Children, boys, girls, and adults all grew up to believe that men are just superior and so why associate God with women who are inferior? Even in the bible, the Holy Spirit and Jesus and God who are all one are referred as “He and Him” also in the Quran God is referred to as He and Him, so even religion gives us the idea that God is associated with the male gender not female. We grow up to enlarge the idea of how the male is different than the female but what we tend to ignore according to Rogers in “gender and the science of difference” is the “large overlap” between the genders. And I argue that culture is the reason for that. We ignore how much we are similar and focus on how different we are making our small differences grow bigger and bigger. Verses Eliot who argues in “Pink brain, blue brain” that our sex differences are hardwired and shows it on the bell curve (the difference is very small and only at...
