Graphs About Prison Overcrwoding

Of the many types of charts and graphs available, I felt that the pie graph and the bar graph would be most appropriate for the statistics that I wanted to include in my paper. I think these types of graphs are the simplest to read and easiest to understand. I think graphs strengthen my arguments in my case because I want to get across to my audience how big of a problem overcrowding is in the prison system. Another point I want to get across is that many people are incarcerated for drug related crimes and I do not think many people understand the percentage of inmates that fall into this category. I think these kinds of prisoners would have a better chance of getting rehabilitated through other kinds of programs and it will save a lot of money in the process. I am currently looking for a third graph that depicts how much money is being spent on prisons and compare this to how much is being spent on helping the needy and other types of charity. This pie graph depicts the percentages of the kinds of crimes inmate are incarcerated for. The second biggest percentage is for drugs. I want to use this chart to strengthen my argument that if people who are arrested for drug related charges received help instead of being thrown in jail; jails would not be over crowded. I got the statistics from WWW.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/prisons.htm . {draw:frame} {draw:frame} The next graph I decided to use came from the Axia Library Database There is a database called CQ electronic library which is an excellent resource to use if one wants to find information about critical thinking, government, law, political science, or public affairs. This graph depicts how the prison population has almost quadrupled from 1980 to 2005. {draw:frame}
