"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” When British troops were occupying Boston during 1774, they attempted to take possession of the peoples guns in hopes to prevent an up rise. Having knowledge of the British plan, the Americans hid their arms and in time used them to triumph in the war for their independence. Following the war, the writers of the Constitution had in mind that having an armed population had helped to secure liberty.
“Gun control is ineffective in reducing crime rates.”(Moorhouse 1) Gun control is a several-sided argument but it has two major sides, those in favor of gun control and those opposed to gun controlGun control laws will not do any good because people are just going to find a way around the new laws such as illegally obtaining them either by stealing them or by importing them from overseas.
There is no need for private ownership of assault weapons. It is legal to own weapons that are semiautomatic versions of the fully automatic guns intended for use by the military. A semiautomatic gun will shoot a round and immediately load the next cartridge when you pull the trigger. Semiautomatic weapons shoot at an extraordinary speed. “When San Jose, California police test-fired an UZI, a 30-round magazine was emptied in slightly less than two seconds on fully automatic, while the same magazine was emptied in just five seconds on semiautomatic.”(Tami Roleff 1-2)You can find the knowledge and skill to convert semiautomatic weapons into fully automatic weapons in firearm magazines and on the Internet.
In America, gun culture has changed. In the past guns cost a lot of money to buy and were used primarily for hunting. Nowadays they are easy to buy, inexpensive and more readily available. Today people also shoot at targets that look like people and collect guns that have only one purpose and that is to kill....
