Gun Control

 In the three articles I found discussing the problem of gun control each one of the policy streams is mentioned. The streams of Political, Problem, and Policy are all exhibited in these articles about gun control. Some refer to the outside effects on some politician’s reelection efforts, economic effects on certain states, and whether the problem is becoming a constitutional problem or a policy issue only. The gun control is as big as it has ever been currently, and these articles are all writing about the voting process in state’s governments to tighten gun control. It is no longer the brainstorming phase to try to solve this issue, it is now the time for action and all three of these articles are focusing on the hotspot of the Midwest. Midwest has long been known as the most gun friendly region in the United States.
The first article I read was from the Huffington Post, and it talked about the plight of democratic congressman in the Midwest who are up for reelection next year. The states they represent have strong resistance against any form of gun control. This make these democratic politicians choices over the next couple of weeks tricky. Do they follow their own party line of gun control or do they vote as the people they represent wish them to vote. The article mentions one specific senator, Max Baucus Democratic Senator from Montana. The article mentions that he has gone through this before back in 1993, with a Clinton era gun control vote; he voted for gun control and barely got reelected afterwards. (Gouras) He has already come out and said he would not support the assault weapon ban, but has said nothing about the universal background checks. Senator Baucus and others like him are faced with the same policy political problem, do they pursue reelection or what their party line is.
