Gun control has been a debate in America for over 200 years, but it recently has gotten far more serious. Nearly 1 in 2 Americans own at least one gun, so this affects many people. The debate is that allowing citizens to carry firearms will cause more shootouts and violence. This however, is not true. The anti-gun control men and women would like to leave the protecting to police and armed forces. It has been proven that in states that have allowed people to “bear arms”, that there has been no increase in school shootouts. Owning a gun gives that person a sense of security and safety. Gun control is unconstitutional, and does not prevent violence. It is common sense that it is not the gun that makes a person kill another, but rather the heart of the individual.
Gun Control is unconstitutional. It clearly states in the second amendment “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (U.S. Constitution). It specifically says “shall not be infringed.” The founding fathers clearly felt very strongly about this. This means that under no circumstances, it should be changed or modified. The Constitution is what this country was founded on and it should be wholeheartedly obeyed and followed.
Guns do not cause more violence or school shootouts. “The fact is, however, that law-abiding citizens are already permitted to carry concealed guns in forty states, and no increase in shoot-outs has resulted.” According to Snyder, in 2013, more people were killed by knives, blunt objects, drunk driving as well hands and feet than assault rifles. (Wright) Guns are 80 times more likely to prevent crime than to take lives (Snyder). Guns are used over 2 million times a year throughout the world to stop crime. “Law-abiding citizens with concealed guns can use excellent judgment when is the right time to use their guns” (Lott Jr.).
