HADES

Hades was the king of the underworld, the god of death and the dead. He was also the god of the hidden wealth of the earth. Kronos and Rhea are Hades’s parents. Hades sits on a throne made of ebony, and carries a staff. He also has a helmet, given to him by the Cyclopes, which can make him invisible. He was interpreted at the Unseen One. He has two brothers Zeus and Poseidon, and three sisters Demeter, Hestia, and Hera. Hades is the oldest male child. When Hades was born he was eaten by his father Kronos along with his four other siblings. Zeus later caused the Titan to empty them. Hades and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated the Titans and claimed ruler ship over the universe ruling the underworld, air, and sea. Hades wanted to get married and asked Zeus to grant one of his daughters. His brother Zeus offered him Persephone, Demeter’s daughter. Since Hades knew that Demeter the goddess of agriculture and grain wouldn’t allow the marriage to happen, Hades decided to abduct Persephone. He was so captivated by her beauty that he took her by force to the underworld. Demeter searched for her daughter when Persephone went missing. Once she realized Persephone was taken to the underworld, she protested the abduction by stopping her work with the crops. Along time ago food in Greece was always plentiful, but now crops failed and food was limited. Zeus and the other gods tried to convince Demeter to lift her curse on the land, but she would not until her daughter was released. Zeus then sent Hermes to Hades forcing him to the release Persephone. Hades understood this as a demand that he needed to follow. Before releasing her, Hades had her eat seeds from a pomegranate. Since she ate fruit from the underworld she was now tied to the underworld and to Hades. Zeus was forced to make a deal between Demeter and Hades in their claims to Persephone.
