Human-computer interaction is considered to be the interaction between computer users and computers. This comes about with the aid of software and hardware. Some of the basic peripherals that aid in interaction between humans and computers are mice, keyboards and the computer monitor. Since the computer and people are involved, getting necessary information from both could go a long way in trying to make the interaction between the two is a success. On the computer side, information that could lead to a successful human-computer interaction is programming languages, the type of graphics and the operating system being used. On the human side, language and human behavior could prove relevant.
As technology keeps on improving, more is being done to improve the goal of the human computer interaction technology, for example developing new interfaces and how to implement these new interfaces. By doing this the goal really minimize the obstacles that lie between human who wants more accomplished and the computer which is designed to try and understand the user’s needs. There are many human-interaction technologies that we have been exposed to and more and more is being done to make big improvements to them.
Out of the many human-interaction technologies, one that I think will play a big role in the future is speech recognition technology. The technology works by converting words dictated to it by a user to a language that the computer understands then work on the command. Speech recognition uses acoustic features of speech that have been found to differ between individuals. The acoustic patterns reflect both anatomy for example size and shape of the throat and mouth and learned behavioral patterns like speaking styles. There are three types of speech recognition that are currently employed. They are: text dependent which involves authenticating using voice passwords, text-prompted that asks users to repeat random numbers and/or words. Often used whenever...
