Health Insurance is very important to all individuals. “As America continues to move from a manufacturing based economy to a service economy and employee working patterns continue to evolve, health insurance coverage has become less stable.” (Seres, 2005). The number of uninsured Americans continues to grow drastically each year. There are a number of circumstances that plays a major role in this situation.
In the United States today who are the uninsured? In Two Thousand and Five there were nearly Forty Seven million Americans or 16 percent of the population that were without health insurance. The largest majority of uninsured Americans are Native Americans or naturalized citizens. They account for 8 percent of the population. “Nearly 90 million people below the age of 65 spent a large portion of 2006 and 2007 without health insurance.” (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities {[CBP], 2000)
The number of uninsured people is increasing constantly. In the recent years, millions of workers do not have the opportunity to get health insurance coverage. A third of major companies in the U.S. did not offer coverage. It was estimated that in the years from Two thousand until Two thousand and five, Two hundred and sixty six thousand companies dropped there health insurance coverage. 90 percent of these companies have less than twenty five employees. Rising health insurance premiums is another major reason that the number of uninsured people is increasing. “The average annual increase in inflation has been Twenty five percent while health insurance premium for most companies have escalated an average of 12 percent annually.”(Seres, 2005). In the years between Two Thousand and Two Thousand and six employees spending for health insurance coverage increase One hundred and forty three percent.
