Types of Child Maltreatment comes in four major categories, First is Physical Abuse. Physical abuse would cause physical harm or injury to a child from punching, biting, kicking, and even shaking. In many cases, physical abuse results in inappropriate or excessive physical discipline. Second type of Child Maltreatment would be Child Neglect, or failure to provide for the basic needs. Neglect can be Physical, Educational, or Emotional. The third type of Maltreatment is Emotional Abuse, which is designed to control or manipulate another human being through fear, intimidation, guilt, or humiliation. The last type of Child Maltreatment which I would like to talk about is Sexual Abuse. This Particular category is very difficult to speak about but very important to acknowledge because it happens to children and even infants on a daily basis. Child Sexual Abuse may include masturbation, fondling a child’s genitals, digital penetration, and vaginal and anal intercourse. Some child sex abuse is not solely directed to physical contact, there are non-contact types of sexual abuse. Some examples would include voyeurism, exposure, and child pornography. Sexual exploitation by means of prostitution is a worldwide problem and is a direct violation of a child’s human rights. Children are forced into prostitution for many different reasons, one being surrounded in poverty and surviving. Its also sad to say that children are being viewed as commodities or as source of income for poor families. Parents would pimp out their own children just to get there hands on a couple of dollars to pay bills or buy groceries.
Sexual Abuse can lead to antisocial behavior, depression, loss of self-esteem, and the difficulty of intimate relationships later in life. Some prevention efforts in protecting children from sexual abuse is to teach your children on what appropriate sexual behavior is, and when to say “no” if someone touches them inappropriate or makes them feel...
