“According to the U.S. Census Bureau…It is estimated that the population will swell to over 9 billion by the year 2050. If the world’s natural resources were evenly distributed people in 2050 will only have 25 percent of resources per capita the people in 1950 had.” (Go Green). Humans produce more waste than any other living creature on earth. We are a nation of producers and consumers. If something is not done to stop this crisis of global warming and destroying our natural resources, generations from now will not be able to live the lifestyles today’s society has. Living “green” and converting commercial and residential homes to environmentally friendly living can greatly preserve mother earth and insure a better future for our children.
“U.S. estimates that Americans spend an average 90 percent of their time indoors and the concentration of pollutants is10 to 100 times greater than outdoors.” (HGTV) In a normal home there are particles in the air such as lead, asbestos, and fiberglass dust. These can cause breathing problems. Especially if there are small children or babies it can cause problems later on in life. V.O.C. or volatile organic compounds are contained in paints, carpet backing, and most plastics. These can cause eye, nose, and throat irritations. This chemical enters the atmosphere and increases global warming, damages the soil, groundwater, and air. Another harmful chemical found in particleboards, processed woods, finishes, and adhesives is urea-formaldehyde. This chemical causes cancer, and makes it difficult to breath and increases the chance of an asthma attack. (HGTV)By improving your home you not only are insuring the saving of our environment, but it can make living better and healthier for you and your family.
