One conflict in the book Olives Ocean is Martha Boyle (a main character is the book) trying to become a writer. Martha is a shy girl and has a dream of one day becoming a writer, but has a fear of having her parents knowing this. She is afraid because she thinks her parents wont approve of it or they will be disappointed in her because of their such high expectations of her. So her dream becomes her "secret".
this conflict is an internal conflict (person vs. self) because the problem is between just her and herself because she is always thinking throughout the book if she should tell her parents or just keep it to herself. There are many ways that marth can solve this conflict with herself.
She could talk with her parents and tell them that she wants to become a writer and ask them to support and allow her to fulfill her dreams.
she can go to her parents and tell her parents that she wants to become a writer and say that she doesn't care what they think and she going to chase after her dream.
she can tell her parents that she wants to become a writer but is going to give it up since her parents think its not filling their expectations.
the best solution that would help Martha with her problem would probably be to go parents and talk it out and ask them to support her with her decision because she not giving up her dream but shes also not tell her parents what shes doing and being rude. Then maybe in the end her parents will come to a reasonable answer and let Martha become a writer, even though thats not what they pictured.
