High School 2008 Camp

HIGH SCHOOL CAMP JUNE 2ND2008- This was the first day of summer camp for our athletes. As the players began to run on the field, I can tell we lacked talent very quickly. Two out of our three running backs graduated and went to division one programs. There were only seven returning seniors and four returning starters. As I predicted, the day went very slow. June 3rd - It was an early day for players. It started slow but actually sped up faster than I thought it would! I was the wide receiver coach so I actually became acquainted with the soon to be star of Mosley High. Corey Todd was a junior on the Varsity team that had just transferred from a school in Atlanta, Georgia. From the first drill I noticed something special about him. It seemed as if he was a step ahead of everybody including the senior receivers on the team. I knew I would have to keep an eye on him through the camp. June 4th- Hump day is what we called Wednesdays. It was a light practice today because we went pretty tough on them at the beginning of the week and they still had the rest of the week to look forward to. Today was mostly team drills so there was time individually with my receivers unless I was explaining the plays to them. As a whole, the day went as planned and there weren’t many distractions in the practice and we end up getting a lot of good practice time. June 5th- Turnover Thursday s were today. The players were actually hyped up and ready to practice today. It was a good day for me today because I got the one on one time with the receivers that I wanted. The players began to feel more comfortable around me so the actual information I was relaying to them they start applying it. Coach Wright actually gave me my first compliment today because of the improvement he thought he saw in the receivers. June 6th- This was the first scrimmage of the week.
