“Please let me stay at home, please! I don’t what to go hiking.” I begged
“You have to come with me tomorrow. We leave at 7:00 a.m.” She said sternly.
I did not want to go hiking, especially in the early morning. According to my mom we are going to go to a small mountain on the outskirts of Taipei, Taiwan. She said we shouldn’t miss the chance since we only go to Taiwan ever few years. We were supposed to meet up tomorrow with some of my old friends from elementary at the beginning of the trail. I didn’t manage to convince her to let me stay, so I was forced to get up at six o’clock in the morning.
When we got to the base of the mountain, everyone was waiting. We started up the trail with me in the front and everyone else lagging behind and having conversations. Although the trail was not too challenging, it was still tiring. The adults slowly fell behind. Soon, I was quite a long distance from the group, so I sat down on a rock to wait for them. With nothing to do, I began to notice the sounds of nature around me and see beautiful things. The sound of the bird and insects chirping was heard all throughout the forest. Squirrels and other small animals climbed in the trees. Big colorful butterflies flew everywhere. There were bees buzzing around the blooming wild flowers. I even saw some small fish in the little creek flowing along the trail. Then right beside me I saw an unusually large ant the size of a penny, and it was carrying a grasshopper leg. I was amazed at how much wildlife there was out here and how beautiful it could be. After a while, the adults caught up, and we set out and once again, I took the lead. Soon they were out of sight, and I was alone again and the sound of nature settled in again. I started to hear cicadas and birds. I even found a wax apple tree, which was full of a red fruit, by the trial.
Finally, I got to the top. The sight was amazing the whole city of Taipei was visible. The two tallest buildings in Taipei were both...
