History of Journalism

The purpose of this paper is to research about history and characteristic of journalism in the society. Journalism was first introduced to society by the mean of newspaper. Now it has been extended too many other industries such as television and radio broadcastings. Journalism means that collecting, writing, editing, and presenting of news or news articles in newspaper, magazines, radio, television and broadcasts. Journalism is very famous in the media because their have survived wars, economic collapse and social destruction. Now, the paper will explain about history of journalism and unique characteristics that encourage journalism in the Fourth Estates.

In the first time, newspaper started by “hand –writing” in Renaissance Europe. They always talk about retail trader, information about everything from wars and economics society until “human interest”. Until in the earlier 1400’s for the first printed newspaper appears in Germany in the news of pamphlet or broadsides. Another state like England, the first of newspaper is Corantos, is like small news pamphlets but the only published when some event creditable accrue. But the first successfully newspaper printed is The Weekly Newes in the 1622 and also the first true newspaper is London Gazette of 1666.
Newspaper not only appears in England but also in the American. The first newspaper which appears in Boston in 1690 entitled Publick Occurrences. These paper publisher without authority, it was suppressed and the publisher arrested. It was unforgotten moment for some people until 1845 (Phil Barber, 2008). The first successful newspaper in America is Boston News – Letter by John Campbell in 1704 (Phil Barber, 2008). Although it’s heavily subsides of government and near to fail because little subside to society.
