Avoidant Personality Disorder
Avoidant personality disorder is a psychiatric condition in which a person has a lifelong pattern of feeling extremely shy, inadequate, and sensitive to rejection. About one present of the population has this disorder. It is equally divided between men and woman. The symptoms for (APD) are They will try to form relationships or friendships with other people only if they believe they will not be rejected by them. Loss and rejection are so painful that these people will choose to be lonely rather than risk trying to connect with others.
A person who has this personality disorder might be easily hurt by criticism or dissaproval. Also the will be shy to become involved with people. They will be shy in social situations out of fear of doing something wrong
Treatment for this disability is antidepressant medications which will reduce their sensitivity to rejection. Psychotherapy may also be helpful. Some of the possible complications without treatment is a person with avoidant personality disorder may become resigned to a life of near or total isolation. They may go on to develop a second psychiatric disorder such as substance abuse or a mood disorder such as depression.
