Homework Is Unnecessary
In every student’s life, homework is a common encounter. Although is it an essential part of their education? Many teachers look at it as a reinforcement of education. Although there are studies that show it may not help at all. Also in some cases, it has been proven to be counterproductive, and actually have a negative effect on students. Homework should not be given to students especially in large amounts because it is time consuming, stressful and an overall burden on students.
One reason why homework should not be given is it is very time consuming. Some student’s schedules are chalked full of activities out of school. This makes it hard to complete their homework assignments. Evidently this causes their grades to drop and interest in school to diminish. Also school already takes up half of a student’s day, why make them work after school on their free time? Their free time should not be used to do assignments it should be used for things like spending time with family, doing things with friends and just being a kid.
Another negative effect of homework is the amount of stress it puts on students. Stress is not something foreign to students they already face enough of it in school, so they don’t need to deal with it out of school. The main reason homework causes stress for students is because they do not have time complete it, so they are stuck working on it late at night. It is not uncommon for some students to get six or less hours of sleep because of homework, when they should be getting at least eight to nine hours. This may be putting their education and health at risk. Lack of sleep is no joke and it should not be taken lightly, especially when it comes to children.
