How Good Are Your Communication Skills

Being able to communicate well is one of the most important skills that a person can possess. Communication is the act of conveying information from one place to another using one of the many different forms of communication. People communicate in many different ways, but the most noticeable ways in which people communicate is in a verbal and non-verbal way (Engleberg and Wynn, 2010). Verbal communication incorporates any method of communication linking words, verbal or written. This can include the conversation that you have with a friend or an email that you may send to a co-worker. Humans are unique for the fact that we are the only species that can communicate with one another using words or technology. Verbal communication is very important because it is used to notify. Interpretation is very important when it comes to verbal communication. Verbal communication supports to clarity when it comes to mistakes and offers information that is needed and may be missing. Verbal communication is very important and goes hand in hand with non-verbal communication. The non-verbal communication the way a person receives a statement or gesture. Non-verbal communication comprises body language. Body langue cancategorize as movements, facial expressions, eye contact and posture (Engleberg and Wynn, 2010). Non- verbal communication is important because it is often used to strengthen, refute, substitute, supplement or highlight our verbal communication with non-verbal signals such as signs, expressions, and vocal variation (Engleberg and Wynn, 2010). The best example of non-verbal communication is when a person avoids eye contact when they ask a question. The person avoiding the eye contact may see as a liar.
