Today, Cars are tough to work on without taking it to a shop. Well changing oil can be a challenge also. People often pay a mechanic to change the oil for them. Well I find it hard to pay a mechanic to change my cars oil. So here is how to change your cars oil.
First, you must find the correct tools. To change your oil, all that is needed is the correct size wrench, and about five or six quarts of oil. Also needed is a oil drain container. Also there must be a safe place to work on the car. Since being under your car is a requirement to change the oil, there has to be ramps to give enough clearance to get under the car.
Then, once the car is on the ramps and safely in park. Exit the car easily, so the ramps don’t move. If there is a floor crawler use it. It will make it easier to roll underneath the car. When under the car, find the oil pan. There will be a bolt on the bottom, which is what needs to be loosened to drain the oil. Be very careful when loosening the bolt; make sure not to drop the bolt in the bucket. The oil may be very hot as the motor was just running. It may take a couple minutes for the oil to completely drain out. What I normally do while waiting is change the oil filter. As I said, be careful, the oil will be hot. After the oil is completely drained from the motor, tighten the bolt back on the oil pan.
Lastly, Careful remove the oil cap from under the hood. The motor will most likely be hot so it would be a great Idea to wear gloves. After removing the oil cap, retrieve the five or six quarts of oil recently purchases. It is a good idea to use a funnel when putting oil in the car. It will keep spillage of oil on your engine to a minimum. After all the oil is added, tighten the oil cap back on the engine. Now is the time to carefully get back in the car. Start the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes, make sure the oil pressure gauge is showing the correct reading. After making sure the reading was correct,...
