How to do the HAKA
Most people think that the HAKA dance is just a silly dance that trinity high school and other schools around the nation like the do before football games. Most people think that trinity created the dance just because we were the first to bring it to Texas high school football but were not and its much more than a silly dance. The HAKA is a traditional war dance or war cry that the Maori people of New Zealand did before going into to war. Where the HAKA is more famous from is from the New Zealand rugby team called the all blacks. They do the dance before every game and it hypes up the players and gives a sense of war. It is a dance of mainly islanders of Polynesian cultured people, and it was brought to Trinity high school many years ago and has been a tradition ever since. So, today I will teach how to do the HAKA.
The first step you will need to do is make your mind set focused and angry. You don’t want to just be doing the motions of the dance; you want the intensity of it. At trinity, they do the dance before and after each game weather they win or lose. They’ve had undefeated seasons for at least the past 3-4 years so they usually never lose. Next, which is the most important step, is to learn the dance steps and the movement. Learning this part is much more important than the actual words. The HAKA is done as a large group not individually, therefore if you do not know the words or can say it, you stand in the back and perform the dance and blend in.
The next step is learning the words. Here are the lyrics:
