How to Maintain a Positive Attendance Rate in High Schools
Introduction
The purpose of my study will be to show constructive ways or strategies to improve the attendance rate in secondary schools. If attendance is improved the orderliness of the learning environment and the enforcement of the attendance rules, will help identify a positive attendance trend in creating retention strategies.
I intend to use a research hypothesis to guide my research study to identify if class attendance has a positive effect on academic performance. I will use predictors to determine if a mandatory attendance policy will have a small positive impact on average grades, academic performance or individual scores.
The research questions will ask, “What are the positive interventions or strategies needed to increase the attendance rate in high schools”? There is no one-size-fits-all solution to address an attendance problem; multiple strategies can increase the likelihood that students will come to school and complete high school. Some of these strategies require state-level action; others must be implemented locally, within individual schools and school districts. Still others involve working with students and families on an on-going basis.
If there are any possible assumptions as it relates to my study, it would be that students who fail to succeed in school and attend school regularly fail to provide the students with the environment and supports they need to succeed. However, for some, initial failure is the result of poor academic preparation; for others it’s not attending school on a regular basis.
