When you see or think candles what comes to your head? Candles can be tied together with birthdays, holidays and even special occasions. Buying candles can most definitely cost you an arm and a leg. Most candles range from $3.00 to over $100.00, depending on the style and brand.
A lot of you are probably thinking how can there be a cheap part to candles. Making candles from home is inexpensive and easy. I will inform you on three basic things which include how to go about finding the right materials, how to melt the wax, and how to make a molded candle. The first step in making a candle from home is making sure we have all the right equipment needed. You will need a clean counter area as well as a stove top to work on. You will need wax; you can either use wax from old worn out candles which are obviously free or you can go to a craft store and purchase wax. You will need wicks; you can make wicks from heavy, braided cotton string or can purchase wicks from a craft store. You need to set up a double boiler. You don’t need to go out and buy a fancy boiler, in fact you can make one from home using a pan and a coffee can. You will need a mold if you are planning on making a molded candle. This can be anything like; a milk carton, plastic cups, tin can, paper towel tube, etc. There are also ingredients you can use when making candles, although these are optional. They are crayons for a desired color or you can buy candle wax dye from a craft store or a scented oil to give your candles a nice fragrance.
Once you have gotten all your needed materials together you are ready to move onto the next step in making candles. The next step in candle making is melting the wax. You start off by placing wax in the double boiler or in a coffee can that you put in a pan of water. Next you will want to heat the water until it begins to boil.
