Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the three following aspects of making homemade biscuits. 1) Being prepared with all ingredients 2) Kitchen safety 3) How to follow directions.

Introduction:

When is the last time you had homemade biscuits? Maybe Grandma’s house last Christmas or your Mom made them for you on a special occasion the last time you were at home. It seems that homemade biscuits are of a dying breed. Today there are so many alternatives to homemade biscuits that it seems that making them is equivalent to building a fighter plane. So many frozen biscuits are being preferred over homemade biscuits because of the convenience of the products on the market. Even Elvis Pressley liked tube biscuits, writes Brenda Butler in her book, “Are You Hungry Tonight? Elvis’ Favorite Recipes.” Today I will show you how easy it is to make homemade biscuits.
My Grandmother always said that the first step to having the best biscuits is to always be prepared. I have been cooking since a very young age with my Grandmother assisting me. Over the years I have tried many different recipes of biscuits but today my recipe came from the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook.
I will be sharing some information on kitchen safety with you from the New York City Fire Department’s web site www.nyc.gov and fire safety reminders from www.geocities.com. Did you know that the kitchen is the most dangerous room in the house? The web site www.eagnet.com states that the National fire statistics show that the kitchen is the leading room for fire injuries and fire origins.
Today we will also be learning how to follow directions. In making homemade biscuits everything has to be done just as stated on the recipe. You do not want to cook them too fast or too long. You have to be careful in how you mix the ingredients and in what order...
