1. Introduction
a. Attention Getter: If you have ever considered traveling to Japan, the first thing you probably considered is the price of plane tickets. The average ticket from here to there is about $2,500.00. I’m about to teach you how to make Japanese paper cranes. If you pay attention, and learn how to fold these correctly, you could sell the crane to purchase your plane ticket! If you sell your cranes for $0.25, you would only have to make and sell 10,000 cranes!
b. Purpose Statement: Luckily, for you, I can teach you how to make these cranes quickly and easily. You will be on your way to Japan in no time!
c. Credibility: I started making these cranes a few years ago, when someone gave my younger sister a book on origami for Christmas. The book was a little too hard for her at the time, so I helped her learn how to fold the cranes, and it has stuck with me through the years.
d. Preview Statement: I will be showing you the two step process for making paper cranes. First the base, and then the crane itself

TRANSITION: Now that we have our materials ready, we can start making the base.

c. The Base
i. Almost all origami animals or shapes start with one of two simple “bases”. These are the starting folds that shape the beginning of the animal or shape.
ii. We will be using a Preliminary base.
1. Fold horizontally and vertically. There will be a cross made out of the creases.
2. Fold along the diagonals. This will make an “X” shape.
3. Push the two opposite sides together and flatten. Do this for both sides.
4. The preliminary base is finished.
TRANSITION: Now that our base is done, the crane in not far behind.
