How to Make a Gingerbread House
Making gingerbread houses are a great Christmas tradition for the whole family. The easiest way to make a gingerbread house is to use graham crackers instead of gingerbread. Using graham crackers instead of gingerbread saves time and effort. Saving time can be very important when there is so much more to be done. Also, the gingerbread houses look amazing as a decoration!
Some things you will need is 2 egg whites, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, 1 box of confectioner’s sugar, some zip lock baggies, scissors, 1 large box of graham crackers, and hard Christmas candies. The egg whites, powdered sugar, and lemon juice are used to make an icing. The zip lock baggies are for the icing and the scissors are to cut a hole in the bags. The graham crackers are for the walls and roof of the house of course. The candies are for decorations on the house.
The first thing you will need to do is separate all of the candies into separate bowls. Separating them at the beginning helps, because later on your hands and fingers will be very sticky. The candies will also be easier to get to and choose from. Some candies that you could use are jelly fruit slices, candy canes, chocolate bars, licorice, sprees, nuts, life savers, marshmallows, and many, many more.
Next, you will need to combine the lemon juice and egg whites into a large bowl. The result of mixing the two ingredients together is royal icing. After mixing the two, add powdered sugar by two table spoons at a time until the icing is like stiff peanut butter. Using a mixer is the best way to mix the ingredients together. The purpose of the icing is to keep the graham crackers together when building the house, and also to make the candy stick to the house when decorating.
After the icing is ready, add large spoonfuls to the zip lock baggies. Each bag should contain about a cup of icing each. Then seal the...
