Deciding on upcoming trends in Human Resources proved rather difficult. There are some many thing Human Resource Managers must face, It was hard to narrow it down to just a few. I consulted the Human Resource Specialist at my place of employment and I also listened to the news and read the latest news articles on the subject and I believe I have come up with a few topics that are in discussions and that are changing Human Resources. The three topics that I have chosen include immigration and how it affects US companies, Succession Planning, making sure our Generation X people are ready to take over for the baby boomers and finally, insurance issues that employers are facing, including the HIPPA and GINA acts.

With the congressional debates this past summer regarding the introduction of comprehensive immigration reform legislation in both the House and the Senate, the implications for employers and their HR departments started to become more evident. As a result, corporations should continue preparations within their HR departments to handle the significant compliance and regulatory issues they will face if and when legislation is passed. As demonstrated through the introduction of the “No Match” program by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), revisions to employment eligibility processes create significant obstacles for U.S. employers. Following protests by numerous business groups and unions, a preliminary injunction was granted by a U.S. District Court judge in northern California temporarily halting the implementation of the “No Match” program.
