What is job evaluation? How does it differ from job analysis, & how it is used in establishing an equitable job structure?
A job evaluation is determining the worth or value of a job, in relation to other jobs in the organization making a comparison to establish a pay structure. A job analysis gathers information about a job identifying the content in terms of activities involved, determining what employees are best fit for specific jobs.
What methods does your former employer use to value jobs? I can’t recall any since I was only part time, I didn’t benefit from many perks besides flexible scheduling and profit sharing. I do remember a great benefits package, and paid time off.
Who are typically involved in job evaluation? Who at your job?
They usually consist of managers, employees and human resource specialists. They should meet periodically to make sure the company’s financial and human capital are being used efficiently.
How knowledgeable are employees at your company in the job’s evaluation structure? How & why?
I have to take a guess on this. I would assume they were pretty well informed. Most of the positions required a degree, or some sort of vast experience. Part time & Full time positions set the tone for an equitable reward system because responsibilities varied between the two.
Express your opinion about the pros & cons of job based & person based pay structures.
Skill based pay is in reference to compensation constructed on the skill of the employee instead of the job. Which I think is fair because some skills comes from experience, a person may have plenty more skill and experience than one just having book knowledge.
