How can CALL assist in FLT.
Nowadays, at the time of technology and international communication, foreign language is an important factor of progress in Kazakhstan and computers is one of the main parts of this.
Computers have made a triumphal entry into education in the past decade, and now they are intensively used in language teaching. It is not only a new technical facility, but also due to ICT new forms and methods of foreign language, a new approach to teaching are appeared. There are a lot of techniques which can assist English language students to improve their learning skills by using computers. Among these techniques are online English language learning web sites, computer assisted language learning programs, presentation software, electronic dictionaries, chatting and email messaging programs and learning video-clips.
Using computers as an aid in language learning:
1. Use of Multimedia Software
Multimedia are computer programs that use a mixture of text, graphics, sound, video, and animation. Multimedia computer programs can increase the motivation for learners to develop their vocabulary and reading skills.
2. Browsing the Internet
In fact, there are a variety of websites for foreign language learning. One of them is “Switch Zoo”. “Switch Zoo” is a make new animals’ activity that stimulates creative thinking about animals’ characteristics. Teachers can also find lesson plans and examples of stories, poems and drawings. The other website is “Learn English Kids”. Children can read and watch fun animated songs and stories that help them develop listening, reading and speaking skills.
3. Computer also helps in communication with classmates or peers in different countries. You can use video-conference and with native speakers.
